Background
The Santa Ana Gardens Channel Bikeway Extension Project will improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians and will provide connections to the existing and future bikeways. It is not only a bikeway – this will be a new path that provides a connection to the community, providing a safe walkway to nearby schools, Jerome Park, Friendship Park and adjacent neighborhoods.
Phase 1 of the Santa Ana Gardens Bikeway was completed in 2016 and is located immediately east of Jerome Park and Monte Vista Elementary School, between Monta Vista Avenue and McFadden Avenue.
Project Scope
Crews will transform a dirt County access road (next to the Santa Ana Gardens Flood Control Channel) into a paved path for public use — for bicyclists and pedestrians. This new path will provide a connection to the community by providing a safe bikeway and walkway to nearby schools, Jerome Park, Friendship Park and adjacent neighborhoods.
Construction activities will include:
- Dedicated path off the roadway for bicyclist and pedestrians (short portion of bikeway at Myrtle Street will be on the roadway)
- Cable-railing fencing
- 8-feet tall, high-durability fencing
- Curb ramp reconstruction
- Friendship Park renovation
- Landscaping
- Security lighting
- Crosswalk at Willits Street
Location
From the southern end at Monta Vista Avenue to the northern end at 1st Street, located midway between Sullivan Street and Daisy Avenue.
